Bonuses, trials & referrals: read the conditions

Eligibility, renewal costs, holding periods and commercial incentives matter more than the headline reward.

KEEP THIS IN MIND

Assess the underlying service first. A reward can be outweighed by costs, restrictions or risk.

Find the actual terms

Use the provider’s current offer page and full terms. Record the country, eligible customers, expiry date, required actions, limits and when any reward is paid. A referral link is not proof that you qualify.

A free trial may turn into a paid subscription. Check the renewal price, billing period, cancellation method and deadline. Keep your own reminder rather than relying on an advert.

Compare the total commitment

A minimum deposit is different from a fee, but it may tie up money or expose it to investment risk. Required trades can incur spreads and other costs. Look for withdrawal restrictions and circumstances in which a reward is reclaimed.

Check the exact financial firm and the permissions relevant to the service using the FCA’s own tools. Registration and authorisation are different, and neither means every product or loss is covered.

Notice who is being paid

A publisher may receive commission when a reader buys or signs up. An ad label identifies that commercial connection; it does not verify an offer’s suitability or results.

This library labels its Amazon book links as ads and keeps publisher references and free lessons available. Do not infer that a book purchase, paid charting plan or signup reward is necessary to learn or invest.

TRY IT IN YOUR RESEARCH NOTES

Compare an offer with no offer

Write two columns for the same service: the normal total cost and restrictions, and the proposed offer after its conditions. Add eligibility, renewal date, cancellation route and the provider’s terms link. Leave an unverified reward out of the comparison.
